The hills are alive...

When you hear the word ‘summer’, what springs to mind first? Ahh, white, sandy beaches? Pristine swimming pools? The sweet smell of sun cream? Or…yuk, sand in the sandwiches? Urgh, that battle for the best lounger? And ouch, sun cream in my eye?!

If you find yourself resonating with the latter then you’ve come to the right place; for here at The Oxford Ski Company we’ve got your antidote at hand…Summer in the Alps.

Replace white, sandy beaches with green meadows coated in a sea of flora and fauna. Replace pristine swimming pools with glistening mountain lakes. And whilst we don’t recommend replacing the sun cream, we know that the sweet smell won’t be that of said sun cream…it’ll be from the centuries old cabin nestled in the mountains patiently awaiting your arrival with a plate of freshly prepared goats cheese drizzled with olive oil followed by a filet of local lamb perched upon a potato gratin. All washed down with a glass of crisp, fresh white wine…

Beginning to feel a little bit like you’ve been transported to a parallel universe in which Hansel & Gretl have taken over that M&S advert? Well, we should hope so. For whilst we can’t avoid the predictable and inevitable Heidi, Sound of Music and Brothers Grimm fairy tale connotations when it comes to summering in the Alps. We can ensure that these fairy tales become a reality for you and your family this summer. We can’t, however, be held responsible for any spontaneous and sudden outbreaks into song that may occur during your holiday. Please consult your travel insurance company for further details on how to protect your children against father’s tone deafness.

If you are still undecided as to whether the Alps are truly your cup of tea, then why not hear it straight from the ‘horse’s mouth’ and read our interview with the head chef at a handful of chalets in Zermatt, Chris Jenks – we guarantee he will not fail to impress. So, whether it’s Switzerland , Italy or France? Catered or self-catered? We have a wide range of chalets and hotels that have some fantastic family offers (as well as, we will admit, some pristine swimming pools!) waiting to be snapped up this summer. Contact us now to find out more.

(But not forgetting those of you who find solace with the former sentiments of first paragraph - have your people talk to our people at OS Private Travel - they have more sandy beaches than you can shake a bucket and spade at...)
