Perched at the top of the Otztal valley in the Tirol region, the picturesque village of Obergurgl occupies an impressive, high altitude position at 1,930m above sea level. Along with the nearby, linked hamlet of Hochgurgl (which is even higher at 2,150m), the villages are self-titled as the 'Diamonds of the Alps.' Obergurgl is a charming resort, well preserved by families of the original farmers who owned it and it's car free at night, ensuring a peaceful atmosphere. It has only 400 inhabitants year round, but has several good quality hotels and some gourmet restaurants making it a firm favourite for families and couples. There are several challenging descents for more advanced skiers and 110km of pistes which offer huge choice for intermediates. Marvel at the 21 peak view from the Hohe Mut restaurant or sample the culinary delights served up at the futuristic new mountaintop bar which offers spectacular scenery at a height of 3,080m.
