Skiing is Austria's national sport and St Anton is the country's celebrated ski capital. This began when Hannes Schneider, a resident of nearby Stuben, pioneered the downhill skiing technique here in 1860. The Arlberg ski region is reliably snowsure and there is endless challenging skiing here, as well as plenty of fun slopes for the less experienced, especially on the Rendl and Nasserein slopes. With 3 interconnecting mountain ski areas below the Gampen, Galzig and Valluga peaks, you need never ski the same piste twice. The Arlberg pass also covers the neighbouring resorts of Lech, Zurs, Stuben and St Christoph should you want to explore further.
