On our end of season visit to the Three Valleys the hotel team visited some truly remarkable luxury ski hotels. From classic, elegant hotels to suit the most discerning skier; luxurious yet traditional ski hotels for those who like to keep it old school; to jaw-dropping out of this world dazzling attracting those looking for the glitz and glam Courchevel 1850 has to offer. Whilst our desire for luxury is certainly what drives us, and we like to think we are a sophisticated and cultured bunch, a lot of our time here was spent in the amazing children’s playrooms - too much fun! The lesson learnt from our visit was clear - the Three Valleys is fantastic for families. Well, of course we already knew the ski area is perfect when taking the kids (this is worthy of a blog in itself), but the hotels here are just on another level. Just because you have children in tow does not mean you have to sacrifice your want for luxury. There are some exceptional family hotels here to suit the discerning skier, the traditional old school family and those wanting a touch of glamour.
Firstly you have the big players - the biggest and best luxury hotels in Courchevel 1850. The Hotel Le K2 epitomises just how far luxury and service in hotels has come. The draw for families has to be their amazing kids and teens area, you could literally spend hours here there is so much on offer with games machines for the older ones and a cute igloo and slide for the tots. Then you have the traditional Les Airelles complete with ‘The Kingdom of Children’ with castles and all sorts of magical surprises. 1850’s newest 5* addition the L’Apogee is definitely worth a mention. Understated luxury for the adults, and for the children…a kids club and a ‘Free Style’ teens area in what must be the most colourful, glittery rooms in the Alps!
It does not have to be all glitz, glam and magical castles however. For a more low key option why not try Courchevel 1650 and the lovely 5* Hotel Manali. A dedicated nanny looks after your children in their very own playroom. Value for money yet still enjoying a stay in Courchevel.
We have, however, found a hotel that has absolutely everything a family could wish for. The 5* Altapura in Val Thorens is ski out, close to ski schools, has an indoor/outdoor pool, a supervised children’s playroom and with organised fun activities, and they even had an ice-rink last year. In fact, it is hard to think of anything this hotel doesn’t have! Easily one of our favourites.
Families are certainly spoilt for choice in the Three Valleys. We did finally tear ourselves away from the incredible children’s playrooms, but it wasn’t easy. You have been warned…
