Best Places to Ski in Spring

Best Places to Ski in Spring

We thought we’d help with the huge decision of where to ski this spring & Easter by giving you the heads up on the most snow sure resorts around. Here are the resorts and our luxury recommendations of where to stay with a mini summary of the resorts themselves to get you dreaming of swooshing down the slopes in a few weeks time!

Val Thorens: Being the highest resort in Europe gives a level of worthy notoriety to Val Thorens; at 2,300m it is one of the most renowned resorts for being snow sure. It also receives a fantastic amount of sunshine, which is always a bonus when on a family ski trip. It is the most visited ski resort in all of Europe for good reasons! One can achieve the dizzying heights of skiing at 3,220m and there is a wide range of advanced skiing terrain as well as blues and greens for beginners. As well as a whole host of snow sports and activities in and surrounding the resort. For somewhere with Ski In/Ski Out access try Hotel Altapura for 5* luxury, plenty of spacious living areas and a sumptuous spa for unwinding to ease the ‘ski burn’ in your legs!

Val D'Isere and Tignes: Since these resorts neighbour each other and therefore are likely to get similar snow reports (normally very good reports), we thought we’d group them together. Both resorts are found in the world famous ski area the ‘Espace Killy’, with 300km of pistes and with 50% of them blues and greens, these resorts are perfect for families introducing children to this our favourite of sports. However given the vast terrain that is available to the more advanced skiers there is also much to be said for mixed ability groups all enjoying themselves in these two fantastic resorts. For an excellent location, 5* rating and being the newest hotel of that quality Le Yule Hotel & Spa has a lot to recommend itself, including being family friendly and fantastic location in Val D’Isere. Or for a penthouse that sleeps 10 and is new this season the Kilco Penthouse offers indulgent style, an indoor pool and a spectacular open plan living space perfect for relaxing in at the end of a long day on the mountains.

Zermatt: For a glamorous ski destination Zermatt holds a certain trump card with its location at the foot of one of the most iconic peaks in the Alps. The Matterhorn rises majestically from the town, stunning in any weather and a beautiful prominent marker wherever you are on the piste. With 183km of groomed pistes, a glacier rising to a height of 3,883m and 294km of off-piste terrain for exploration everyone in your family will be happy. For a contemporary chalet beautifully balanced with classical Alpine design that sleeps 8 Chalet Aria would be the perfect base from which to explore this chic resort and the surrounding mountains - a penthouse chalet with use of a hot tub, stunning views over the town and Matterhorn and a roaring open fire to snuggle up to!

Courchevel 1850: With some claiming that this village within Courchevel is one of the most desirable in the Alps this resort wants for nothing. With fantastic skiing for all abilities nestled at the heart of the Three Valleys you’ll be hard pushed to decide whether to stay in this stunning resort and soak up its charm and glamour or enjoy excellent skiing from first to last lift. There are plenty of fantastically chic hotels and chalets to choose from, for example Hotel Les Airelles and Le Cheval Blanc, each with Michelin star restaurants. Then in the center of ‘Millionaire’s Row’ Chalet Hermine offers traditional design with lavish style and every detail considered for sheer comfort and relaxation.

St Anton: Recognised by many as the skiing capital of Austria St Anton is a real feel-good resort which manages to strike the balance between luxury, fun and seriously good skiing perfectly. With an outstanding selection of reliably snow-covered pistes, top end accommodation & service (both hotels and chalets) and located in the Arlberg area which is thought to be one of the best skiing terrains in the Europe, St Anton is a resort we highly recommend for the March and early April Easter breaks to maximize on all that it has to offer. For a brand new addition to the resort’s most sought after chalets check out Chalet Tschoder for Austrian charm balanced with architectural genius, open fires, outdoor hot tub, a cinema room and excellent areas to relax and unwind - this chalet has become St Anton’s hottest new arrival.

Whistler: With impressive snowfall throughout the season Whistler lures the European skier to it’s lofty heights for it’s pleasant climate, gorgeous properties, family friendly atmosphere and its large range of activities whilst off the pistes. Because of its location Whistler also boasts a large number of Ski In/Ski Out properties, which can make the difference when skiing as a family. There’s a wide range of restaurants, from international cuisines to fine dining and don’t forget to take your children out for ‘Poutine’, a traditional Canadian dish consisting of chips, cheese and gravy or a ‘Beaver tail’ made from fried pastry and a choice of sweet toppings- delicious (and well deserved after a long day on the mountain!). For ultimate luxury book to stay in Sunridge Villa for every need thought of; from an indoor pool, outdoor hot tub, open fires, games and cinema rooms, amazing views of the mountains and a driver to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

Saas Fee: This car free resort, surrounded by 13 majestic peaks and glorious Swiss architecture is considered ‘The Pearl of Alps’ for good reason. With an extensive and varied selection of ski runs, ranging from 1,800 to 3,500m there is a run for everyone! This height also ensures that Saas Fee is a fantastic Easter holiday destination for ensuring snow as well as much needed sun after a grey and miserable winter in the UK! Also enjoy in Saas Fee world-class gastronomy and excellent après ski bars and cafes to unwind in whilst you soak up those sunset rays and the superb mountain vistas. Being incredibly child friendly means there is a great selection of ski schools and nurseries in this resort to choose from when booking with us.

Obergurgl: From it’s height of 1,930m Obergurgl remains a charming quiet resort perfect for Easter holiday skiing since it is on the main snow sure but also very family friendly and safe for children. With classical architecture to give the resort its pretty and traditional appeal, and being car free at night this resort allows deep relaxation and peace during your holiday. As a consequence of its charm and great skiing, stunning boutique chalets and hotels are becoming more common in Obergurgl. Highly recommended for it’s sleek interior yet cosy for snuggling in on a chilly snowy night The Chalet at 11˚ East sleeps 8-10 in complete luxury, with a home cinema for extra indulgence and lazy evenings with the whole family.
