Yet more fantastic conditions welcomed the annual influx of skiers to Whistler throughout the winter season of 2011/2012. In fact, by mid-March the resort had already surpassed its annual snowfall of 1,042cm with more than two full months of the winter season remaining. By this point it already had 35 feet of snow! And sadly by the time the Blackcomb lifts eventually closed on May 30th, there was still at least 2.5 meters of snow left along with many untracked runs.
Looking at these statistics many people may be begin to wonder if all this incredible snowfall is coupled with unbearable minus temperatures, however it is important to remember that due to Whistler's coastal location the resort does not tend to experience the extreme low temperatures which are often present in the interior Rocky mountains. Therefore Whistler is a great choice for both powder fiends and families alike.
The village itself also has a typical Canadian feel to it with an abundance of cheerful and vibrant cafes, restaurants and bars along with many activities for non-skiers or those looking for a break from the slopes. Activities range from Sleigh rides & husky sledding, to tubing and Zip Trek.
