The Oxford Ski journey began in Crans Montana over 20 years ago and for that reason it has always held a special place in our hearts. The resort itself is more than 100 years old and started life as two villages – ‘Crans’ and ‘Montana’. Combined to form the resort we know today and set high above the Rhone Valley, if offers exceptional panoramic views stretching from the Matterhorn to Mont Blanc. Although a popular destination for skiers during the winter months, Crans Montana has an incredible 300 days of sun each year, making it the perfect year-round resort!
Ski area
There are 140km of pistes at Crans Montana, mostly comfortable blues and reds, spread over four areas. Intermediate skiers can make use of the long, wide runs whilst beginners have three nursery areas to learn the ropes. For advanced skiers, the World Cup pistes are challenging and the off-piste skiing extensive. The modern, well-designed ski lift system also ensures there are virtually no queues!
Getting there
The nearest major international airport is Geneva which is 2 hours from Crans Montana and offers regular flights throughout the day. From the airport, private transfers are available to get you up to resort (our dedicated Pre-arrival Concierge team can help with this). Taking the train is another easy, scenic option with the journey from Geneva to Sierre taking around 2 hours 15 minutes. From here, take the funicular which climbs from Sierre to Montana Gare in 12-20 minutes.
What to do
Crans Montana is a picture-perfect resort with idyllic, peaceful scenery but this doesn’t take away from the liveliness and wide programme of activities on offer all year round. Although best known as a paradise for skier’s during the winter months, and a haven for golfers during the Summer, Crans Montana has a plethora of activities to suit all visitors, no matter how active you are feeling. Youngsters can learn to ski with Snowli and his friends in the Swiss Snow Kids Village at Crans Ski School. Take a break from skiing and try snow shoeing, snowtubing, dog sledding or ice skating; there’s plenty to choose from!
In the warmer months the mountains provide the perfect backdrop for other adrenaline-fueled activities such as mountain biking and tree top trails at the Fun Forest. For those looking for a more laid-back approach to their holidays, try the Wine Pressing Trail through the village of Ollon or spend the day beside one of the peaceful mountain lakes which often offer water games and inflatables for children.
