VAL D'ISTANCE
Former English rugby captain Mike Tindall MBE will be staging his first ever skiing distance challenge in Val d’Isere in March 2019. He is inviting teams of four to cover as much terrain as possible in just three days to raise money for three great charities.
Wings for Life is a not-for-profit spinal cord research foundation. Mike has chosen this charity because of it’s simply mission to find a cure for spinal cord injury after spending much of his life playing a game which carried inherent risk of such injury.
Mike has witnessed first hand his Dad’s ongoing battle with Parkinson’s since his diagnosis with this debilitating disease 14 years ago. The charity was first introduced to Mike by it’s co-founder and Pakinson’s sufferer Tom Isaacs who sadly passed away last year. As a result, Mike is more determined than ever to do whatever he can to help fund a research and find a cure.
Upon meeting Matt Hampson, a tetraplegic who suffered a catastrophic spinal injury during a rugby training session, Mike was immediately drawn to his positivity and desire to help others. From that moment, Mike knew that he wanted to do whatever he could to support this great charity. The Matt Hampson Foundation works with those who have suffered life changing injuries, mostly through playing sport. In 2018 the Foundation completed a pioneering ‘Get Busy Living’ centre which gives more injured people access to support, rehabilitation and the chance to keep on living.
Based in Val d’Isere, this challenging yet rewarding event will not only feature first class skiing but plenty of unrivalled entertainment in one of the best ski resorts in the world.
Each team will also be partnered with a celebrity or a charity beneficiary/ambassador who receive help from, or support, the charities associated with this event.
