Stunning mountain scenery inspires stunning chalet design. Across the Alps (and further afield) talented designers have been busy creating beautiful chalets that mirror the spectacular surroundings in which they are set. We are fortunate to have several such chalets in the Oxford Ski portfolio but have picked three which each have their own unique design styles for you to take a look at. The Chic One – Chalet Ferme de Moudon, Les Gets, France
Created and owned by the acclaimed designer Nicky Dobree who is credited for setting the trend in Alpine luxury, Chalet Ferme de Moudon is one of the most iconic chalets in the Alps. Featured on Grand Designs Abroad and called ‘The finest winter house in the French Alps’ by Tatler, it oozes luxury chic and offers guests a true escape thanks to its incredibly private and secluded location, yet is only moments from the Alpine resort of Les Gets.
From the exterior, there is no doubt this is a handsome building with traditional alpine chalet features, including balconies and wood cladding. It is not until you walk through the door though that the full magnificence of the place hits you. Incredible attention to detail is evident throughout and can be described in several ways… chic and beautiful being just two.
Spread over 4 floors, the chalet can accommodate up to 12 to 14 guests in total luxury. Five rooms are home to super king beds and the sixth, twin beds. As you might imagine, all bedrooms are wonderfully decorated. Cashmere throws and soft leather furnishings add to the cosy feel. Heading to the main living area, sumptuous sofas just beckon for you to collapse where you will be able to soak up the warmth from the roaring log fire.
The attention to detail extends to the service you will receive from the chalet staff throughout your stay. Combine this with just a four-minute drive to the Perrieres Express ski lift and you have a winning combination. Chalet Ferme de Moudon - chic design, impeccable service and a stunning location.
The Cool One - Chalet Joux Plane, Morzine, France

We are a mere few weeks away from the opening of Chalet Joux Plane which is promising to be cool, sophisticated and thoroughly luxurious. Designed by renowned architect Herve Marullaz, this is a chalet being built without constraint. Set on a large plot of land that backs onto a stream and alpine woodland, the chalet itself is spread over a massive 600sqm.
The first thing that will strike you is the front end of the chalet which is made almost entirely of glass allowing the mountain light to flood the interior. To further increase the presence of light, the middle of the chalet is dissected top to bottom with a glass atrium. The designers have really made the most of the blank canvas afforded by the location with some decidedly cool, James Bond-esque features including a 15m underground tunnel which takes you from the garage and boot room right into the heart of the chalet. Fancy a swim? You will once you’ve seen the pool. 23 metres long, it passes right through the building itself and allows guests to swim both inside and out whilst taking in the spectacular views.
At the heart of the property is the entertainment space – lavish in size, the purpose behind the design is to allow guests to enjoy a variety of individual experiences whilst being together in the same space. Dine on the floating mezzanine floor which overlooks the mountains, relax on the sofas in front of an open fire, retreat to the library for some quiet R&R or step onto the balcony where you will find a hot tub ready to soak away aches and strains acquired on the slopes. It goes without saying that this truly epic chalet will be complemented with superb levels of service ensuring you have a truly wonderful stay. We can’t wait for its doors to open this season!
The Contemporary One - Chalet Couttet, Chamonix, France
From cool we move to fabulously contemporary… Chalet Couttet. The stunning interior design is complements of the team at Laughland Jones, a UK based design agency with an extensive portfolio of international projects under their belt and a high-profile list of clients including Richard Branson. Set within walking distance of the centre of Chamonix, this is a chalet for someone who appreciates interior design at its absolute best.
Before heading through the door take a moment to soak up the surrounding views which include Mont Blanc towering in the distance. Inside, you’ll be greeted with a new reception with the chalet name ‘Couttet’ emblazoned on the wall in bright orange relief lettering. It looks great and has the added benefit of confirming you are at the right chalet!
You will instantly notice the stunning array of colours, fabrics and materials which create a luxurious environment that you won’t want to leave. Every space and object is there for a reason and together create a truly unique environment. Five individually designed bedrooms sleep up to ten guests. All bedrooms have their own stunning bathrooms. Heading to the enormous open-plan living area you will again be able to take in the fabulous views of Mont Blanc. Back outside a heated pool and hot tub awaits in the private gardens. Finally, a games room and cinema complete what is 500sqm of sheer contemporary, luxurious mountain living.
