Following another packed season of successful bookings, the Oxford Ski Chalets, Hotels and Concierge Teams all joined forces for a great trip to one of our favourite Alpine resorts - Zermatt!
With a group of 16, we were spoiled for space and luxury in the exquisite Chalet Shalimar. Hosted by our long-time friends, Bramble's Malcolm, Fi, Colin, Duncan, and Barry, some of the team were returning to this fantastic property, while others were first timers. Among its many stunning features, Shalimar can comfortably claim to have the best Matterhorn view in Zermatt from the swimming pool. Perfect for a social group with open plan spaces for milling about and relaxing with pre-dinner drinks after a long day in the mountains, the wellness facilities are also exemplary and you can ski directly back to the chalet at the end of the day, and ski out to carve the first tracks of the day in the early morning sun.
Our chef Mario treated us to a sublime fillet steak (universally rated as 'excellent'), although the standout dish had to be his Pork Belly with Chorizo Lentils and Roasted Carrot. We were also served a phenomenal wasabi starter, in-chalet cocktails, and a varied selection of Swiss wines by the hosting team. Excellent service!
The whole team can happily report that we enjoyed 2 of the best days spring skiing EVER this year! We all know Zermatt is a year-round glacier resort, but the quality of the skiing was outstanding, and the warm sunshine made for comfortable exploration, while the relatively low temperatures kept the snow thick and forgiving. Also thanks to our awesome instructors/ski guides, we were able to experience as much of the ski area as possible, and even get some helpful pointers on fine-tuning technique.
