1. Accessibility. We all want to be on the slopes with as little hassle and as swiftly as possible, and with Morzine being only 75 minutes from Geneva the resort certainly is most appealing for this point alone. Plenty of reliable, professional, private & shared airport transfer companies are available such as, Alp Nav Transfers, to get you speedily from the airport straight to your chalet or hotel.
2. Huge ski area. Morzine sits within the Portes du Soleil, which is one of the largest ski areas in Europe. 650km of glorious skiing all up for discovery, with a good range of pistes for all levels. Because of the large ski domain it’s easy to plan day trips to different resorts such as Avoriaz, Les Gets, Chatel and Morgins in Switzerland for an exciting border crossing trip!
3. Full range of accommodation. Morzine hosts a comprehensive range of types of accommodation, in particular many offer short stays which makes a weekend trip much more appealing, particularly given the short transfer from Geneva! There is also a great choice of beautiful chalets and hotels, for a large group (up to 16) check out the beautiful and spacious Chalet Le Crepet, luxurious and modern with an outdoor hot tub and exceptional chef. Chalet Twenty26 boasts the most original sauna and is only 500m from the nearest lift, whilst Chalet Lumi which sleeps 4, is right in the heart of the town and allows, for the canny skier, incredibly quick access to slopes and lifts.
4. Summer. Once the snow has melted Morzine becomes a pretty, vibrant summer town with lots of activities and lots of accommodation open throughout the summer months. It remains a real draw to the Alps for many during summer, particularly down hill bikers, walkers and those with an adventurous spirit to explore the Alps in all manner of ways.
5. Lovely town. Morzine itself is a busy and vibrant town, which feels exciting but has also retained the charm of an Alpine village. There is an abundance of locals who live there year round, which gives the town a great foundation of community and atmosphere. Meandering down the main street one can find many extreme sports shops and small boutiques, perfect for some après-ski shopping and browsing, for gifts and luxurious little treats.
6. Events. For its size Morzine offers a really extensive list of events; live music, festivals, weekly fireworks and its weekly market. There’s the ‘Rock the Pistes’ music festival in March 2017, also in March is the Snoxboxx Festival a short distance away in Avoriaz, offering plenty of live music and organised après over a week. Or for something a bit different, in July Morzine hosts the ‘Spartan Race’, sprinting down hill with obstacles, rivers and other competitors to watch out for.
7. Family Friendly. As already noted above, Morzine is a great choice when it comes to accommodation and its many options for all families and groups. There are plenty of restaurants offering children friendly menus and ski schools that excel in terms of children’s lessons – Easy2Ride Ski School have excellent group instructors and private lessons. And for entertaining little ones after a day on the slopes the Parc des Dérêches offers winter and summer fun, with swimming pools, ice skating, recreational activities and a spa for some deep relaxation and needed pampering!
8. Suits all levels of skiers. Morzine is surrounded by gentle slopes that are great for beginners and getting ski legs back if there have been a few years since the last holiday! On the other extreme there are also lots of terrain parks through the Portes du Soleil and exciting off-piste. Equal amounts of blue and red runs offer lots of cruising skiing and hire a guide with New Generation to take you off-piste for some invigorating exploration in this huge ski terrain.
9. Non-skier activities – A group/family-friendly resort needs to be able to offer a range of activities for all, particularly to keep the non-skiers entertained. Morzine is a great town in this regard, it has a really fun atmosphere with lots going on all the time, there are great spas and beauty rooms (try Indulge for a fantastic massage!), plenty of shops & a weekly market on Wednesdays selling delicious local produce. As mentioned above the Parc des Dérêches boasts an impressive swimming pool complex with a spa and indoor and outdoor ice-skating. Morzine also has two cinemas and many companies offer sports such as paragliding, husky dog sledging and snow-mobiling for the more adventurous!
10. Après. Morzine maintains a well-deserved reputation for lively, fun après-ski with live music and outdoor DJ's, with the two festivals in March, Morzine will offer even more than its usual jolly atmosphere.
