Top ski movies to get your mountain fix from home

Planes are grounded and the 2019/20 ski season was unfortunately cut short. Our hearts go out to those whose trips were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, but we are choosing to remain positive and remember that future seasons will go ahead and we’ll all be on the slopes once again. Whilst we are all spending more time at home, we thought we could help with your dose of the mountains in the form of our favourite ski movies. The perfect list to make your way through over the coming weeks!

Eddie the Eagle

A biographical sports comedy-drama directed by Dexter Fletcher; the film follows a British skier who in 1988 became the first competitor to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping since 1928.

Chalet Girl

Filmed on location in St Anton, Austria and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, Chalet Girl sees a former skateboarding champion take on a new job as a chalet girl in the Alps.

Hot Tub Time Machine

Three estranged, depressed friends reconnect at Kodiak Valley Ski Resort where they had previously enjoyed fun times in their youth. After a night of heavy drinking in the hot tub, the world is very when they awake the next morning.

Downhill

Barely escaping an avalanche during a family ski vacation in the Alps, a married couple is thrown into disarray as they are forced to re-evaluate their lives and how they feel about each other.

James Bond - The Spy Who Loved Me

James Bond is well known for being a bit of a dab hand at skiing, with ski scenes featuring in every film. The ski chase that opens ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ shows 007 on assignment in Austria, being pursued down a mountain by assassins. The body of the sequence was actually filmed in St Moritz, Switzerland.

James Bond - View to a Kill

This was Roger Moore’s last appearance as James Bond and the first time snowboarding was featured in a 007 film. Although set in Siberia, shooting actually took place in a mixture of Switzerland and Iceland.

James Bond - Spectre

Spectre stars Daniel Craig and involved 22 days of filming in Solden Tirol. Ian Fleming, the author of the Bond novels, lived in Kitzbuhel himself in the 1920s.

Bridget Jones 2: Edge of Reason

Bridget is ecstatic about her new relationship with Mark Darcy but her confidence is shattered when she meets Mark’s assistant. A beautiful, slim, quick-witted Rebecca Gillies becomes her new competition. The famous mini-break scene features the amazing scenery of the Austrian ski resort of Lech.

Dumb and Dumber

Dumb and Dumber tells the story of two dumb but well-meaning friends who set out on a cross-country road trip to Aspen, Colorado. They are thoughtfully returning a briefcase full of money to its owner without realising it was left as ransom money.

The Art of Flight

The Art of Flight is a snowboarding documentary film sponsored by Red Bull. Iconic snowboarder Travis Rice and friends redefine what is possible in the mountains.

Aspen Extreme

Two ski pals move from Brighton, Michigan to Aspen, Colorado in search of a better life. After becoming ski instructors, women, drugs and job troubles threaten to destroy their friendship.

Frozen

Three childhood friends spend an afternoon at a New England ski resort and manage to persuade the lift attendant to let them ride one last time despite the resort closing early due to a storm moving in. A change in lift attendants sees the trio stranded on the ski lift, far above the ground.

Ski Patrol

A group of ski school instructors ally with an evil land developer to try to sabotage the ski patrol and convince the forest service to cancel the owner’s lease on the ski area. It all backfires when the forest service wises up to their plan.
