A Summer Escape to the Alps

There’s nowhere quite like the Alps during Summer.

The first thing you imagine is lush green valleys, dramatic scenery, warm sunshine, mountain air and crystal clear lakes - It can make you feel healthier just thinking about it.

But there are so many other reasons to go there. Below are a few of our favourite Summer Alpine destinations along with what we would recommend there.

 

Verbier

Best for: Festivals & Events

Highlights: The following events are real highlights this Summer but in between there’s plenty of hiking, pampering, fantastic restaurants and fitness programmes on offer.

Montreux Jazz Festival: 1st – 16th July

Verbier Classical Music Festival: 22nd July – 7th August

Jumping International de Verbier: 14th – 23rd August

Chamonix

Best for: Adventure

Highlights: Possibly the Alpine Mecca of adventure sports including (but certainly not limited to) Climbing, Rafting, Canoeing, Via Ferrata (Alpine Scrambling), paragliding and much, much more with adventure specialists like Evolution 2. But the town is also large enough for great shopping and plenty of good restaurants offering the opportunity to sit in the sun with a carafe of wine after lunch while the more energetic climb or leap off mountains.

Morzine & Les Gets

Best for: Yoga & Cycling

Highlights: With a network of picturesque towns & villages dotted through the Porte du Soleil area you could spend happy days wandering through them soaking up the best of a Summer Alpine atmosphere. To complete your relaxing escape you can make the most of yoga, indoors & out, but should you want to exert yourself more so the cycling is fantastic (both road and mountain biking)

Zermatt

The Backstage Loft

Best for: Glacier Skiing, Food, & Golf

Highlights: Being a picturesque car-free resort it would be tempting enough to spend a week strolling through the resort, soaking up the fresh mountain air and making the most of the fantastic array of high-end restaurants. But should you want more, key activities include glacier skiing 365 days a year, golf on the Matterhorn course. Paragliding and snow/ice/rock climbing.
