Time races by, often as quickly as an Olympic skier heading down a freshly groomed piste! Before you know it, the new ski season is upon you. But that’s ok… you wisely booked your chalet a few months ago. All that is needed is a call to the Concierge team to finalise a few minor details like a nanny, a couple of private ski instructors, a table at your favourite restaurant and you’re off!
Unfortunately, much like a wipe out when everyone is watching, this last-minute approach frequently leads to much frustration and pain (although of the emotional kind!) because sadly your favourite restaurant booked up long ago, the best nanny services have run out of nannies and there doesn’t seem to be a private ski instructor available on this planet (particularly if you need one during the busy school holidays)!
I spoke to Victoria Perrins who heads up our rather wonderful Concierge team at Oxford Ski and asked her what her advice would be to avoid this nightmare scenario. Her answer was simplicity itself… ‘Book everything as far in advance as possible!!’.
‘Clients frequently leave booking essential aspects of their trip until the 11th hour’ she explained. ‘Demand is high during peak season for Nannies, Skiing Lessons and so on, such that we often have the best providers getting fully booked for February half term by the end of the summer’.
Victoria also highlighted flights as a major issue. Not only do seats become hard to come by but prices rocket as soon as seats are released. A few weeks before half term a standard London to Geneva flight can be upwards of £700!
So, if you’re booking your holiday in the next few weeks, make sure you also think about all the other key elements needed to ensure a fantastic ski holiday. Our pre-holiday booking checklist includes:
- Chalet or Hotel Booking
- Private Transfers
- Restaurant Reservations
- Skiing Lessons
- Spa Treatment Bookings
- Off-piste Activities
Our Concierge team is here to help so make the most of them! They are available on +44 1993 899 420 or click here for more contact details.
