Our Most Popular Luxury Ski Resorts in the USA

With a country as vast in terms of its landmass as its differences in geographical landscapes, the USA has something for everyone when it comes to skiing. With many of the most famous ski resorts located in Europe, America is somewhat of an underrated country when it comes to the slopes available. In this blog, we will be looking at the most spectacular luxury ski resorts money can buy in America, as well as going over many of the luxury features available in specific chalets and hotels in each location. If you haven’t fully decided you would like to spend your next skiing holiday in the USA, then you can also have a look at our luxury ski resorts in France, Italy, AustriaJapan and Canada.

In no particular order, the five luxury ski resorts in America we will be talking about today are:

  1. Aspen, Colorado
  2. Vail, Colorado
  3. Snowmass, Colorado
  4. Park City, Utah
  5. Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Aspen, Colorado

When talking about ski resorts in the USA, there is only one place we can start. Aspen has long been known as the destination for America’s wealthiest looking to select their dream location for a ski vacation. A huge accumulation of luxury chalets and hotels can accommodate for every situation, whether you are a large group of friends or a tight-knit family. The town itself has a large range of restaurants and bars to choose from if you were looking to get a meal outside of your chalet or hotel, as well as having many boutiques to choose from if you are wanting to indulge yourself in retail therapy. It’s not uncommon to hear Aspen referenced in plenty of American movies, when some of the richer characters are discussing where they are heading for their winter breaks. If you want to step into this wonderland of luxury skiing, you will need to find a chalet or hotel to match the occasion.

Unsurpassed Beauty is a luxury chalet in the Elk Mountain Range, located just a twenty-minute drive away from the town of Aspen. The venue is instilled with class and luxury features; two swimming pools (one indoor and one outdoor), an outdoor hot tub, media room and private gym make up just some of the amazing entertainment options. If you are travelling with children, then the lodge has a children’s wing which contains two queen-sized bedrooms, each with flat-screen TV’s,  interconnected with a lounge.

Vail, Colorado

Another resort in Colorado, Vail is one of the largest resorts that the state (and country) has to offer; with over 5,000 acres of terrain ready to be explored on skis, the good combination of mixed difficulty runs can accommodate for any level of skier. The hotels are excellent both in terms of the worldwide recognition of the chain names and their luxury status.

The Four Seasons Vail is no exception to this; with its opulent five stars and world-renowned customer service, the hotel is definitely one to consider. A leading feature of The Four Seasons Vail is its spa and wellness centre. Equipped with an outdoor heated pool, pair of hot tubs and outdoor deck hosting a quaint fireplace, this hotel has everything you need to fully relax after a hard day hitting the slopes. If you have also enjoyed the fantastic range of drinks at the hotel bar (perhaps a bit too much), then the wellness centre with help to soothe your ills.

When it comes to the quality of the skiing itself, Vail is second to none. Alongside the huge range of blues and greens, Vail is known across the skiing world for its legendary back bowls. The seven vast bowls are what make Vail, well...Vail! Although the pure size can appear intimidating, intermediate skiers can still enjoy taking their time down the wide slopes. Containing often the purest, softest snow, it can be quite the workout, but the experience is unbeatable when it comes to American skiing.

Snowmass, Colorado

If you are looking for the perfect family-friendly resort, then Snowmass has you covered. With a massive selection of childcare facilities, child-friendly hotels and restaurants, you need look no further for your next family ski vacation in America. The resort also has plenty of excellent ski schools for small children and beginners, so you can feel comfortable heading off on your own for the day whilst your child learns the core techniques.

If you are looking to avoid the morning commute to the slopes, then you might want to consider choosing a ski-in and ski-out venue such as The Westin Snowmass Resort. Having this option can save you plenty of time and effort if you are travelling with small children who will find the morning walk with heavy gear and equipment difficult and stressful (for both them and for you!). It also maximises the time you can spend on the slopes and sets you up for the day nicely.

Snowmass has a fantastic range of eateries available for families. The Snowmass Kitchen takes fast food to the next level, with a delicious breakfast buffet ready to fuel you for the day on the slopes at a moment’s notice. If you are looking for a location to dine in the evening in fine style, then check out The Vue Lounge; with a fireplace outside overlooking the surrounding mountains, The Vue offers a first-class dining experience.

Park City, Utah

You might not think of Utah when you think of skiing in America; quite the opposite! Deserts galore in the summer, with some of the hottest terrains in the USA, do not make for obvious skiing locations. However, the mountains are spacious and the snow on them is plentiful in the winter months. In terms of travelling to Park City, you can fly into Salt Lake City which is just under an hour away, and then travel by car to the mountains.

Interestingly, Park City is home to the annual Sundance film festival, so don’t be surprised if you see the odd A-list celebrity disguised underneath a ski helmet and goggles! Park City is a vibrant place to experience your skiing vacation, with plenty of activity in terms of apres-ski ready to entertain you. Due to the sundance festival, there are naturally plenty of cinemas to visit; so if you are looking for any more escapism aside from the amazing skiing and luxury resorts you will be staying in, you can head to the big screen. There are also plenty of music festivals throughout the year if you are inclined to watch live performances from a range of bands and artists.

The excellent mix of runs for beginners all the way through to advanced will satisfy every level of skier. The majority of the runs cater for the intermediate, alongside a few black diamonds for experts and green and blue runs for beginners.

If you are looking for a chalet for a maximum group of eight, then the Snowflake Chalet is perfect for your needs. Because the chalet is ideally situated for both the centre of the town, and the nearest ski lift from the centre of the town, it is possible to enjoy the nightlife and skiing in equal measures.

The three-bedroom Chalet has a luxury outdoor hot tub on the balcony, and can sleep up to eight people. If you’re looking to have a dream family night in, then the theatre room with projector screen will have you covered.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Finally, let’s talk about skiing in Wyoming. The midwest state is home to Jackson Hole, a resort that is in turn home to the infamous Corbet’s Couloir. Corbet’s Couloir is an expert run, with the entrance to the slope being near vertical. The run then flattens so a still ridiculous 40 degrees, so we strongly advise that only the strongest skiers attempt this route. If you are an experienced skier, then we highly recommend attempting the run; it is one of the most well-known runs across the state and country, and can provide some of the most memorable skiing you will ever experience.

Aside from Corbet’s Couloir (we had to get that out of the way right at the start, as it is the key attraction for experienced skiers in Jackson Hole), the town itself is an authentic wild west vicinity, with a John Wayne worthy saloon ready to serve food and refreshments.

You can expect the hotels to be of an exceptional standard, with The Amangani having views that overlook the Teton mountain ranges (the very ranges that you will be skiing on). Part of the Aman range, you can expect quality in both the standard of the hotel itself, as well as the customer service, to be the very highest. With 40 suites in total, a range of options are available depending on your requirements. If you are looking for the very best, then you will want to stay in one of the Amangani Suites. At 74 square metres, the suites are equipped with an opulent bathroom as well as a dressing area. The views from the suites overlook the mountain ranges, as well as the Snake River Valley.
