Will there be a ski season this year? That is the question we are hearing time and again from our clients. After the stress and uncertainty that Covid-19 has caused over the past seven months, we are pleased to report that the answer is a resounding yes – there will indeed be a ski season this year. Resorts across the Alps, North America and beyond are gearing up for what they expect will be a busy winter, with all of them preparing new guidelines to ensure skiing can be enjoyed as safely as possible during the coming months.
It goes without saying, however, that this year’s season will be like no other ever seen before. Resorts have spent several months putting new rules and regulations in place so that, by the time November comes around, they are ready to welcome both domestic and international visitors to the slopes. As we reported in one of our previous blogs, ski resorts across the world are currently applying a whole host of safety measures to ensure they are fully compliant this winter. Face coverings will be mandatory in many areas, social distancing will be adhered to everywhere and service levels in hotels, chalets, bars and restaurants will be adjusted accordingly.
We’re in daily contact with our partners in resort, as well as tourism boards across the Alps, and understand that they are taking these new safety measures seriously in order to operate safely and securely. As an example, the current Clean & Safe campaign by the Swiss tourism board is enforcing regulations such as mandatory mask wearing on public transport, contactless card payments in restaurants, social distancing instructions/signage throughout resorts and regular cleaning/disinfection of ski lifts and buses.
Whilst some of these changes might seem a little overwhelming, it’s worth pointing out that everything which makes a luxury ski holiday so great will certainly remain the same. Lifts and gondolas will still be running in a timely manner, restaurants will still be serving excellent meals and bars will still be offering that all important Apres-ski. Despite all the changes that need to be implemented across resort, here at Oxford Ski Company we are confident that your time on the slopes will make for a fantastic holiday, which will be well worth the wait.
Our exclusive use chalets make the perfect choice of accommodation if you’re worried about mixing households. Private chefs cater for every mealtime if you prefer not to dine out, whilst contact free service from your in-chalet hosts can help with everything from organising lift passes to preparing your very own sauna. On the other hand, our selection of five-star luxury ski hotels offer a variety of suites, penthouses and apartments that offer the privacy of a chalet but with the benefit of the facilities within the hotel. With the largest chalet and hotel portfolio in the luxury ski business, we have a huge range of accommodation options to suit you and your party.
With the 20/21 season creeping closer, you might want to start thinking about planning your winter ski trip. Whilst peak weeks are, as ever, selling fast, we do still have availability across our portfolio. Coupled with flexible booking terms and cancellation policies, we offer peace of mind for our clients who have already secured their luxury ski holiday for this season using our successful book with confidence campaign.
