Covid-19 Travel Guidance

Please note that the information provided is only a guide and Oxford Ski Company cannot be held liable for its accuracy.
Before making any decisions, we recommend checking the restrictions in place with the relevant domicile and domestic Government bodies.

We know, like us, many of our clients are keen and willing to go skiing this winter. We also understand clients are looking for certainty in what is to come with regards to travel to the mountains. There are still many unknowns for all of us, but whilst that remains the case, we are working hard with all the operators we partner with to provide reassurance to our clients.

We have put together the below information to help guide you through the potential challenges of travel this season. Whilst we have made every effort to ensure information is up to date, changes can happen regularly and suddenly and we advise all clients to contact their chalet operator, hotel or airline if there is anything you are unsure of.

Covid-19 Travel FAQ

Travel & Entry Requirements

What documentation do I need in preparation for travel?
You are likely to be required to complete a variation of a passenger locator form for each country you visit/pass-through. The timeframe in which these must be completed can vary, however, the majority are required to be completed within 48-72 hours prior to departure.

Most airlines will require you to complete all your documentation in advance of your flight before you are able to check-in. Please visit your airline website and the ‘manage my booking’ page in advance of your departure to check what is required. They will also advise what proof of vaccination or negative test is required along with any passenger locator forms or declarations.

What are the entry requirements for my destination?
These will vary depending on your place of departure and which passport you hold. We recommend using the Covid Travel Checker for full details - https://www.traveldoc.aero/

Specifically for UK nationals/departures, we recommend using the UK Government links below:

France
Switzerland
Austria
Italy

What are the entry requirements if I am transiting via another country?
ie, if you are flying into Geneva, Switzerland but your onward travel is to France. You should use the Covid Travel Checker inputting the destination your flight lands in and check their transiting conditions. You are likely to require a passenger locator for each of the countries you are travelling to or transiting through.

Do I need proof of a negative test before entry to my destination?
Whilst this remains a requirement for all arrivals in certain countries, not all countries require proof of a negative test and in many, it will depend on your vaccination status. We recommend using the Covid Travel Checker above for full details. For further information see question #2 above.

Can I travel if I am unvaccinated? (For children/teenagers, see next question)
Travel is still possible, however, entry requirements will differ for each country; you may not be able to enter or may require additional testing. We recommend using the Covid Travel Checker above for full details.

Does a child require a vaccination and what age does it apply to?
Not all children do require full vaccination to travel, for example some do not require vaccination if the minor is travelling with a fully vaccinated adult. At the time of writing, the age bracket of children that are requiring additional testing (because they are not vaccinated) is 12-18, but please check the rules for your specific country. Please refer to question 2 and we recommend using the Covid Travel Checker above for full details.

Do I need to complete a passenger locator form to return to the UK?
Yes, this should be done online no more than 48 hours prior to your return to the UK. Your airline will require these to be completed before you check in and you should not need to have printed copies. You should consult gov.uk for the most up to date information. Your account can be setup in advance.

Do I need to take a test before returning to the UK?
If you are fully vaccinated adult, you will not be required to arrive at the departure airport with proof of a negative test. If you are not fully vaccinated (mostly referring to 10-18 year olds) a proof of a negative test is required taken within 72 hours. You should check the full requirements with your airline and consult gov.uk for the most up to date information. However, all those ages 5 and over will need to have pre-booked their day-2 covid test prior to travel (this can be a PCR or Antigen test).

Do I need to self-isolate on return to the UK if I am fully vaccinated?
If you are fully vaccinated or under the age of 18 there is currently no requirement to quarantine on your return to the UK, however you are required to take a Day 2 test. Please see a useful list of testing providers below. You should consult gov.uk for the most up to date information

Do I need to self-isolate on return to the UK if I am not vaccinated?
If you are aged 18 or over, you will be required to self-isolate for 10 days on your return and take a Day 2 and Day 8 test. You can also take an option Day 5 test to release. You should consult gov.uk for the most up to date information.

Can I travel to Switzerland?
Travel to Switzerland is restricted for those in the UK. As it stands, only vaccinated individuals are allowed to enter, but they must complete a 10-day self-isolation upon arrival. This is a new situation and the latest news/updates should be checked with your airline.

Can I pass through Switzerland to get to France without self-isolation? E.G. Arrivals in Geneva to access France.
Following the update of a Swiss ordinance on 30 November, there is no quarantine requirement for travellers arriving in Switzerland from the UK who wish to travel onward to another country, as long as travel through Switzerland is less than 24 hours and does not involve a stopover.

If you are transiting Switzerland, you are strongly advised to have your onward travel booked in advance and to have confirmed you meet the entry requirements of your destination country (you may be asked to provide proof of your onward travel and accommodation).

In Resort

Do I require proof of vaccination to buy a lift pass or use the lift system?
Some countries will require you to show proof of vaccination or proof of negative test result to purchase a lift pass. For those unvaccinated (including 12-18 year olds), you may be required to take one or two additional tests during the week to ensure your status remains valid. These rules will differ from country to country, and we recommend you speak to your Chalet or Hotel Concierge who will have the most up to date information.

Do I require proof of vaccination or a negative test to use resort and mountain restaurants?
Most European countries require some form of health-pass/green-pass/passé-sanitaire to access public spaces such as restaurants, bars, entertainment. The requirement is to have proof of your vaccination (e.g. as shown in your NHS app) or proof of recent negative covid-test - these constitute your “health pass”. For your specific country requirements, please speak to your hotel or chalet operator. We strongly recommend that you have both your digital and printer hard copies of your vaccination or covid status and I.D at all times.

Do I need to wear a face covering on the ski lift, in shops or public transport?
Mandates for face coverings vary from country to country. It is highly likely that as a minimum you will be required to wear a face mask in; ski-lift queues and on enclosed lifts. We recommend that you carry a face covering at all times, which meet the FFP2 grade which are widely available online - we suggest you take several (a box) with you. Should you require more information in advance, speak to your Chalet or Hotel Concierge who will have the most up to date information.

How do I get tested in resort?
Every resort will be different, but most will have access to testing via Pharmacies, Medical Centres, or dedicated testing centres. If you require testing whilst you are in resort, then we recommend you speak with your Chalet or Hotel Concierge in advance of your stay to check the options relevant to your destination.

Resorts are producing increasingly rich information services for clients on all covid related matters. Below are a collection from some key resorts. If your resort is not shown below, it is highly likely they will have a similar resource, so please do check.

Can I get tested in my hotel or chalet?
Some hotels and chalets have made provisions to have test conducted in the comfort or your chalet or hotel. If you require testing during your stay, we recommend you speak with your Chalet or Hotel Concierge in advance.
