Italy
La Thuile
La Thuile sits on the Italian French border, connecting with La Rosiere to form the Espace San Bernado, a charming ski area whose 150 km of pistes are ideally suited to beginners and intermediates. This family friendly resort offers plenty of wide cruisy blues and greens and the pretty village boasts an excellent selection of restaurants and luxury hotels to enjoy.
Chalets in La Thuile
The destination
Situated in the Aosta Valley, La Thuile is a popular ski resort that enjoys plenty of snow thanks to its predominantly east-facing slopes. As part of the l'Espace San Bernardo ski area, with direct ski links to La Rosière in south eastern France, it has plenty to offer skiers of all abilities. There are over 30 green and blue runs in the area, along with 32 red and 13 black runs: more than enough to keep everybody happy for a week or two. We are pleased to be able to offer you a fantastic selection of luxury ski chalets in La Thuile, all of which are comfortably furnished and close to the action.
Facilities
The 38 ski lifts in the resort are designed to accommodate more than 50,000 skiers an hour, meaning that queues are virtually unheard of in La Thuile. If you want to spend as much time as possible on the slopes, this is one place that should definitely be on your shortlist of winter sports destinations this year! With plenty of great restaurants both on and off the slopes, finding something to eat is never a problem and there is also a good selection of welcoming bars in the resort, providing a relaxed and family-friendly après-ski scene. If good food and reasonably priced drinks with great service in beautiful surroundings is what you are looking for, you will not be disappointed.
The Setting
With unhindered views of three of the biggest mountains in the Alps – Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn, you are unlikely to find a more picturesque setting for a winter sports holiday than this. The traditional mountain village of La Thuile happily coexists alongside the purpose-built ski resort, with charming houses built of wood and stone, a beautiful old church and a healthy scattering of traditional cafés, jewellery, souvenir and antique shops. Whether you are in need of some retail therapy or just fancy a bite to eat, the village is a great place to spend a few hours while taking a break from the action on the slopes.
L’Espace San Bernardo Ski Area
Staying in one of our luxury ski chalets in La Thuile gives you access to the whole of the L’Espace Bernardino ski area, with a total of 79 ski runs serviced by 37 lifts. There are also 6 fun parks located in the area, making it a great place for families with younger children who may not yet be ready for a full day on the slopes. History buffs will be interested in the ruins of the border fort that can be seen from the higher slopes in the area, but for safety reasons this sight can only be enjoyed from afar.
Other local attractions include the beautiful Ecudets forest and the Little St Bernard Pass (Piccolo San Bernardo) after which the area was named. This remote mountain pass, the road through which is only normally open from May to October, bisects a 72-metre stone circle believed to date from the Iron Age. The pass forms part of a route that is popular with visiting cyclists during the summer; during the winter it is shrouded in a mantle of snow that makes such activities rather less inviting.
