Cortina d'Ampezzo
Cortina d'Ampezzo is a beautiful traditionally Italian resort, filled with cobbled streets, boutique shops and excellent restaurants. This resort certainly adds a touch of luxury to your holiday. Surrounded by the stunning Dolomite mountains, this is not a resort you will forget in a hurry. Four ski areas give guests a good range of ski slopes to tackle from easy blues to the Alpine World Cup’s womans downhill run.

The destination
Nestled in the scenic Ampezzo Valley surrounded by the jagged cliff faces of the Dolomites, the resort town of Cortina is popular with travellers throughout the year. In particular, it attracts the “jet set” crowd from all over Europe thanks to its fantastic ski fields and amazing scenery. In fact, you may have seen Cortina in films such as The Pink Panther and For Your Eyes Only which sees James Bond fleeing on skis from spike-wheeled motorcycles.
Cortina is a convenient location as well being two hours from Venice and a short drive from the Austrian and Slovenian borders. As well as a traditional Italian atmosphere, the town offers a selection of superb restaurants and a pedestrianised centre perfect for enjoying the local charm and hospitality.
Visitors will have access to four nearby ski areas which include trails that were first traversed by soldiers during World War One. These regions cover varied terrain for skiers of all abilities. This includes tree-lined couloirs and winding, rolling pistes. In all, there are more than 120 km of routes to explore. The laid-back vibe of Cortina means the slopes are quiet during the long Italian lunchtimes as well as at the start and end of each day.
First Class Luxury Hotels and Chalets in Cortina d'Ampezzo
While there are a number of hotels and chalets available for travellers to stay in within Cortina d'Ampezzo, Oxford Ski would like to recommend two in particular. The Cristallo Hotel is a five-star hotel steeped in history and tradition. It has brushed with the rich and famous too with both Frank Sinatra and Peter Sellers spending some time here. Rooms and suites feature modern design with additional amenities including a spa, swimming pool, hammam and fitness centre.
Our other suggestion is the Grand Hotel Savoia, a five-star hotel found in the centre of Cortina. Located a short walk from some of the town’s best restaurants, bars and boutique shops, guests will have everything they need right on their doorstep. The hotel also features its own restaurant and bar plus a luxury fitness centre with a pool, sauna, Jacuzzi and gym.
