When is the Best Time to Book a Ski Holiday?

January 31, 2025  ·
When is the Best Time to Book a Ski Holiday?

The best time to book your ski holiday depends on your priorities, flexibility, and travel dates.

We recommend booking your ski holiday at least 6-8 months in advance for the quieter resorts and off-peak dates and at least 11-12 months for the busier resorts and peak times.

If this is your first time booking a ski holiday, our article, How to Book a Ski Holiday, explains what you need to consider before booking your luxury ski holiday.

When is the busiest time to go on a ski holiday?

The ski season in Europe runs from December to April.

The busiest time to go away on a European ski holiday is usually during the European/UK school holidays or the festive periods.

Our guide, ‘When is Ski Season’, explains the difference between peak, off-peak, and shoulder periods and details the busiest time to go skiing in Europe and North America.

If you plan to go on a peak-season ski holiday, the earlier you can book, the better. Eleven to twelve months in advance is a rough estimate, but it should give you enough time to meet your luxury ski holiday requirements.

What are your luxury ski holiday requirements?

Your requirements will depend on the type of ski holiday, the occasion, and who is going.

Popular ski holidays include family-friendly holidays, romantic getaways, corporate retreats, and adrenaline seekers looking for a serious alpine adventure.

Special requirements include booking childcare or a nanny in advance, renting a chalet with a hot tub and luxurious mountain view, or ensuring your hotel has Michelin-starred restaurants or a world-class spa.

Each decerning ski traveller has their own needs and requirements, and booking early enough allows luxury ski holiday specialists like ourselves to ensure no detail is missed.

Why is it better to book early?

It's always best to book as early as possible so that you have more options to choose from.

To make things easier, the team at Oxford Ski can help suggest transfers, accommodations, resorts, destinations, local activities, and experiences. If you need any inspiration or help booking your holiday, you can rely on us as your first port of call.

The earlier you book your holiday, the more likely you will experience everything you want and need.

How far in advance can I book a ski holiday?

Most hotels and chalets will allow accommodation bookings as early in advance as you require.

Sometimes, accommodations have early booking policies in place, which we can check for you.

We often book holidays for clients a few years in advance, so if you need to book earlier, please speak to a team member. We will always try to make something work.

The main early booking restriction comes from airlines. Many airlines have policies that only allow bookings eleven months in advance, but exact policy dates will vary between airline providers. Booking early allows you to ensure seats are available on the dates you want.

Should I book ski lessons before arriving at the resort?

Yes. We always recommend booking ski lessons before arriving at the resort.

If you have booked your accommodation with us, we have contacts with some of the best ski schools in the Alps. We are more than happy to arrange ski lessons for you.

There are a limited number of instructors, so booking in advance is essential to ensure you have a space. Especially if going in the school holidays, as many resorts will be fully-booked in advance.

Booking your ski lessons in advance also allows you to research the available lesson packages, tutors, and ski schools.

If you’re a beginner on the slopes and looking for ski school inspiration, our guide, The Best Ski Resorts with Beginner Ski Lessons, has some excellent recommendations.

Should I book a nanny/childcare in advance?

Yes. You must make sure to book childcare ahead of your arrival at the resort.

This is because childcare can book out fast! Especially during the school holiday and peak times.

If you’re unsure of the best childcare options in the area, a member of our team can recommend the best options and arrange them for you through our Experience team.

Should I book restaurants in advance?

If you would like to have dinner at a popular restaurant for a special occasion, celebration, business meeting, or other reason, you should book it in advance.

A member of our team can also recommend all of the best restaurants in the area, and we can book a table at any of the restaurants for you if required.

With over 25 years of experience in luxury ski holidays, our team look forward to going above and beyond for you.

Should I book spa and beauty treatments in advance?

Who wouldn’t want to be pampered from head to toe after an active day on the slopes?

Spa and beauty treatments are a popular experience, and they can be booked quickly.

We wouldn’t want you to be disappointed, so we recommend that you ask us to book these for you in advance.
