Nestled in the Fljót Valley, within Iceland’s Troll Peninsula, in a quiet, remote location, sits Deplar Farm.
Once a 15th-century sheep farm, serenity abounds here. Surrounded only by snow-covered mountains, there is a stillness and a calmness to Deplar Farm. Boredom, however, is hard to come by on Deplar Farm, for what awaits you here is the experience of a lifetime. I recently had the great pleasure of staying at Deplar Farm myself, just a couple of weeks ago — and what an utterly unforgettable experience it was.

My experience heli skiing in Iceland
Donning my ski boots and ditching the ski lift for a helicopter, I had the good fortune to try my hand at heli skiing during my stay. Being whisked away to the top of the slopes via helicopter makes going up just as much fun as going down. It gave us access to some of the highest peaks in the Troll Peninsula, allowing us to make the most of Iceland's superb snow. In such a remote location as this, it was just us and the slopes. It was truly the perfect skiing experience.
Though often – and falsely - perceived to be a skiing adventure for only the bravest adrenaline-seekers amongst us, I believe heli skiing is a doorway to superb skiing even into the late spring months.
Travelling by helicopter provides access to higher slopes than you might be able to reach at most ski resorts, meaning the skiing season here in Iceland is much longer than the rest of Europe’s resorts. In fact, conditions here remain stable well into May and up until early June.
Yet again, shattering the preconception that heli skiing is an extreme experience, I found that the terrain here was more akin to European red runs. I would have happily skied all the terrain here with my family. Heli skiing is far more accessible than one might first think and promises a thrilling time for all those confident in their skiing abilities.

What I enjoyed the most about my stay at Deplar Farm
Adventure is around every corner at Deplar Farm. Besides skiing, days can be spent whale watching, fat biking, snowshoeing and surfing, among other things. There truly is something for everyone to enjoy here.
After a thrilling day, it was always a delight to be able to return to the peace and quiet of Deplar Farm each evening. Deplar Farm’s remote location provided us with a true sense of separation from the busyness and concerns of daily life, more so than any popular ski resort might.
Once a 15th Century sheep farm, but now converted to a beautiful luxury ski property, Deplar Farm presents Icelandic hospitality at its finest. With 13 beautifully designed guest suites, this property is ideal for large families, groups of friends, or corporate trips and celebrations.
Deplar Farm’s amenities are simply exceptional. The farmhouse’s geothermally heated indoor-outdoor pool is the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon away from the slopes — particularly as it comes with a swim-up bar with underwater bar stools.
The wellness and spa facilities were incredible. The spa area alone covered almost 5,000 square feet and included state-of-the-art amenities such as Isopod floatation tanks, an indoor and outdoor sauna, and multiple treatment rooms. Wellness was not limited merely to the spa facilities; Deplar Farm also has a gym and yoga studio.
It was the perfect way to ease achy limbs after a day on the slopes; many a relaxed evening was spent here.
