The Dolomites - a breathtaking mountain range in northeastern Italy - are no exception to that rule. Within South Tyrol’s quaint and picturesque mountain towns, you can expect to find an array of spectacular restaurants, serving cuisine from Italy, Austria and beyond.
Though it’s hard to pick just a few, we’ve pulled together a list of some of the finest dining establishments in the Dolomites, ensuring that your next trip to the mountains takes you on a culinary adventure.
Ladinia, Corvara, Alta Badia
Simply a must-visit, in our opinion. Located in Corvara, within the resort of Alta Badia, Ladinia serves up traditional Ladin cuisine using local produce. Delightfully authentic, yet still adventurous enough to be creative, the menu at Ladinia follows the seasons, making use of the finest regional ingredients available at a given time of year. The wine menu here is not to be sniffed at either — small, yet excitingly local. You can expect to try something you’ve never had before.
Anna Stuben, Ortisei
One Michelin Star
Located in the stunning Hotel Gardena Grödnerhof in Ortisei, a village situated within Val Gardena. A warm, inviting, and endearingly traditional dining room awaits at Anna Stuben, with its engraved wooden ceilings and homely dining tables. Chef de cuisine Reimund Brunner infuses every dish with his unbridled passion for cooking, utilising regional ingredients as he highlights the best that South Tyrolean cuisine has to offer.
Cocun Cellar Restaurant, San Cassiano, Alta Badia
There’s a gleeful sense of secrecy at Cocun Cellar Restaurant, as you dine sequestered away in a wine cellar hidden beneath the Ciasa Salares hotel, located in the beautiful San Cassiano. With the tables surrounded by 24,000 bottles of wine from around the globe, the menu draws inspiration from that international aspect, from lighter bites to hearty meals.
Alpenroyal Gourmet, Selva di Val Gardena
One Michelin Star
Situated in the charming Selva di Val Gardena, this superb Michelin-star restaurant is arguably one of the Dolomites’ most luxurious dining destinations. Dark wooden floors and ceilings team up with classy, almost minimalist furniture to imbue the atmosphere of the restaurant with a tangible sense of elegance. Creative in its construction and presentation, Alpenroyal Gourmet serves typical cuisine from the region in an entirely un-typical fashion.
La Stüa de Michil, Corvara, Alta Badia
One Michelin Star
This restaurant’s beautiful, traditionally styled interior seems like it should be at odds with the creative, Japanese-inspired menu that Alta Badia's La Stüa de Michil serves – but instead, the two aspects work in total harmony with one another, serving up a truly unique dining experience.
Dolomieu, Madonna di Campiglio
One Michelin Star
The interior of Ristorante Dolomieu is styled in a traditional fashion, a sentiment that courses throughout the restaurant’s DNA. Wood-panelled walls create a cosy ambience, whilst Chef Fiorenzo Perremuto serves up a showcase of the finest food from the mountains, taking you on a culinary journey through the Dolomites, starting from the stunning Madonna di Campiglio.
Burjè 1968, Corvara, Alta Badia
Deftly melding Italian cuisine with traditions from French cooking in a spectacular presentation of new-meets-old, Chef Nicola Laera isn’t constrained to local produce. Believing that there is merit to utilising ingredients produced to the highest standard by artisans and farmers throughout the country, cultivating strong relationships with those responsible for the product, and ensuring a real love for food is cooked into every dish at this charming restaurant in Alta Badia.
