Our Senior Chalet Specialist, Tim Newns has been skiing since he was a child, frequenting Les 3 Vallées with his family for many years. He shares his love of one of the smaller resorts in the area, St. Martin de Belleville.
When it comes to ski holidays in France, St. Martin de Belleville holds a special place in my heart. Not only is it one of the most popular locations for my clients, but I travel here often for my own personal holidays. I love the charm of a smaller mountain village but with convenient access to a large ski area and St Martin well and truly ticks this box.
Located just off the route up to Les Menuires and then the exceptionally high resort Val Thorens, it is relatively easy to bypass and miss out on this hidden gem of a resort. St. Martin offers everything I love about the Alps — vast terrain, stunning views, and a truly authentic Savoyard village atmosphere.
Here’s why I think St. Martin the ultimate choice for your next ski adventure:

1. Traditional Village Charm
Unlike the bigger, purpose-built resorts, St. Martin de Belleville is all about that cosy, laid-back vibe. The charming village feel makes your ski holiday so much more relaxed—none of the hectic, bustling scenes you’ll find in the larger resorts. It’s the kind of place where you can wander down cobbled streets and feel like you’ve stepped back in time (in the best way possible).
2. Unbeatable Access to the Three Valleys
Want to explore the vast Three Valleys ski area without fighting the morning crowds? St Martin’s location makes it easy. With just two lifts, you’re in Méribel before the hustle and bustle begins—and the views from the lifts are absolutely stunning, especially in the soft light of the morning sun.
3. Skiing for Every Ability
Whether you’re a fan of long cruisers, powder-filled off-piste adventures, or something in between, St. Martin de Belleville has it all. The runs are varied and exciting, with something to suit every level of skier.
4. Three Valleys Skiing, Without the Price Tag
One of the best things about St Martin? You get access to Three Valleys skiing without the premium price tag of the more exclusive resorts like Courchevel and Méribel. And when you feel like a splash of glamour, you can ski over and enjoy it whenever you want.
5. Foodies, Rejoice
The food scene here is a dream. Michelin-starred La Bouitte is an absolute must-visit. If you’re on the mountain, La Loy is a favourite of mine—their spaghetti bolognese is just delicious! For a cosy evening, head to La Ferme de La Choumette. It’s tucked away in a traditional French-style farm with amazing food—the farm animals add to the charm and entertain the children too!

6. Carve the Pramint
Want to make your day on the slopes truly unforgettable? Be the first to carve the Pramint. Take the St. Martin 1 lift at 9:00 am, followed by St. Martin 2 at 9:10 am. Turn right at the top and take the blue run—you’ll find the entrance to Pramint. There’s nothing quite like skiing freshly groomed pistes with breathtaking views to start your day.
7. Après at P Bar
Evenings in St. Martin aren’t complete without a stop at P Bar. It’s a cosy, hidden-away pub with a big heart—live bands, quiz nights, hearty drinks, and always great company.
Tim’s Favourite Places to Stay
One of the great aspects of staying St. Martin is that you definitely get more property for your budget. Whereas staying in a catered chalet in Courchevel might cost upwards of 50,000 Euros, opting for one in St. Martin would be just a fraction of the cost.
