Easily accessible from the UK either by air, rail or road, Switzerland is home to some of the best ski resorts in Europe. With the news this week that French ski slopes will probably not re-open before Christmas, Switzerland provides a fantastic alternative for skiing in Europe this winter. There are currently no travel restrictions in place in Switzerland for visitors arriving from the UK and, from 15th December, quarantine on return will be reduced from 14 days to 5 days.
With the launch of their Clean & Safe campaign this summer, Swiss resorts have spent several months preparing for the season ahead. They have introduced a number of social distancing and sanitisation measures and have adhered to government guidelines in order to welcome guests as safely as possible this winter. At present, skiing is already taking place on the glaciers in Switzerland, and resorts are expected to open up over the coming weeks. Interest is strong for the early season, with lots of our clients getting in touch for help with booking their ski trip this winter.
In the recent World Ski Awards 2020, Chalet Zermatt Peak was crowned the best ski chalet in Switzerland, and it's not hard to see why. Situated a few minutes from the centre of Zermatt, the chalet boasts a sauna, steam room/Hammam, private gym and indoor and outdoor Jacuzzi. The 4.5 metre floor-to-ceiling windows offer uninterrupted views of the iconic Matterhorn, and panoramic views over the entire village, making it one of the best located chalets in Zermatt.
Geographically, the canton of Valais is where the majority of Swiss ski resorts are located. Each resort is different, but they all offer excellent skiing, beautiful scenery and make a great place for a festive holiday. Travelling with a group of mixed ability skiers? Verbier is perfect for families with young children, and its lively après-ski scene is also a hit with the adults. For some of the most striking scenery in the Swiss Alps, Andermatt is a great choice. A charming Alpine village flanked by two snow-covered mountains, Andermatt has all the facilities of a modern resort coupled with the original features of a traditional ski area.
