A love for the mountains is something everyone at Oxford Ski Company shares. As a keen skier and cyclist (and also one-third of the marketing department), Seb Clark reveals why he thinks the French resort of Morzine should be your next summer getaway.
In the Summer, the Port Du Soleil comes alive with nature, colour, and the buzz of adventure. It becomes a global hub of adventure sports and relaxation, with something for everyone. With Morzine, the beating heart of the Port du Soleil.
Cyclists’ Paradise
With everything from great days out peddling around the Port du Soleil’s mountain roads to down some world-class downhill tracks, there is something for everyone and every ability. Morzine is well known within the mountain biking community as one of the gold standards of bike parks, hosting World Cup events, and much more throughout the summer. But road cyclists can also rejoice in the fact that Morzine has been featured on the Tour de France route, offering stunning roads to conquer.
Lac de Montriond
One of the most tranquil places you could spend an afternoon is Lac de Montriond. This lake is surrounded by dramatic cliffs and is a perfect place to cool off after a day in the sun.
The lake offers plenty of activities, from paddleboarding to lakeside yoga. But don't forget to stop off at L'Auberge for a drink or bite to eat on their patio – it’s the perfect place to soak in the tranquility of the waterfront setting.
Coffee Lovers Rejoice at Satellite
Satellite is the best coffee shop in the Alps (Self-awarded). Everything you have come to love from a specialty coffee shop in cities, to some incredible brunch. It's a cosy cafe with not a lot of space, but if you can get in, it's worth the visit.
Boulangerie Heaven
Who can resist freshly made pastries? La Bonbonnière is the go-to spot, whether it’s for a warm pastry sandwich or a full cake to fuel your day ahead.
Traditional Village
Morzine may not be the largest destination in the Alps, but it’s a classic ski village with narrow lanes, a pedestrian-only zone, and laid-back charm. It’s the perfect place to unwind and escape the everyday.
Fresh Mountain Water
Dotted around the town and throughout the Port du Soleil are fresh mountain water fountains. And, though you may be skeptical of them, this water on a hot day is something special. My personal favorite is the one at the bottom of the Super Morzine lift.
Or, If Beer is Your Thing
Bec Jaune Brewery is a microbrewery on the outskirts of the main village in and out of Morzine. It has a great selection of beers and some incredible food, even if you’re alcohol-free, the food is worth it. With dishes that range from Asian favorites to some pub classics with a twist.
What's the added bonus on top of all of that, Morzine is only 1:10 hours transfer from Geneva airport - what isn’t there to love!
