The destination

Val d’Isère, considered one of the world’s finest ski resorts, is perched high in the Tarentaise Valley in the Savoie department of south-eastern France, bordering the famous Vanoise National Park, and just a few kilometres from the French-Italian border.

Together with neighbouring Tignes, another popular resort, the two resorts form the ‘Espace Killy’, a world-famous ski area with 300km of pistes which are served by an immense lift system comprised of more than 90 lifts.

At an altitude of 1,850 metres above sea level, Val d’Isère is remarkably snow-sure and offers fantastic skiers of all experience levels a wonderful selection of runs, of which more than 50 percent are suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers. Advanced skiers will also find the area home to a number of more challenging runs.

The architecture of this popular ski resort is varied and we believe it offers something for everyone, with the central and western areas of Val d’Isère home to the town’s traditional chalet style architecture, and the eastern part of town home to a number of high-rise buildings, including many four and five star hotels which The Oxford Ski Company can arrange lodgings in for you.

Home to a number of notable après ski bars, including La Folie Douce, which we suspect is the reason why Edina and Patsy from Absolutely Fabulous holidayed here, as well as numerous classy bars, cafés and restaurants, Val d’Isère offers so much more than world-class skiing, stunning vistas looking up at the snow-covered peaks set against sunny skies, and the chic boutiques favoured by its well-heeled international clientele.
